Year 1 - English
Following and writing instructions to make a sandwich: reading and writing
In this unit, pupils practise following and writing instructions. They first design a sandwich and look at the features of instructions, before writing their set of instructions.
You will learn to follow instructions to make a sandwich.
Instructions must be followed in the correct order. Using numbers and sequencing language helps us to follow instructions in the correct order.
tells us how something should be done.
Mistake: Pupils may not follow the instructions as they know how to make a sandwich themselves already. Correction: Model the process with the printed instructions and slow the process down by going one step at a time, encouraging them to repeat the instruction. This could either be using 'I do, we do' as shown in the slides or in small groups.
