Year 1 - English
Following and writing instructions to make a sandwich: reading and writing
In this unit, pupils practise following and writing instructions. They first design a sandwich and look at the features of instructions, before writing their set of instructions.
You will learn to write the start of a set of instructions including a title and a list of ingredients.
Rehearsing what we want to write aloud helps us to hold the information in our head. Instructions start with a title, such as 'How to make a sandwich'.
tells us how something should be done.
Mistake: Pupils may struggle to sequence their sequencing language. Correction: Either provide a word bank of sequencing words 'First,', 'Then,' etc. or encourage children who struggle with this to only sequence using numbers.
