Year 1 - Maths
Counting to and from 20
In this unit pupils will consolidate counting to 20 and back They will secure their understanding of the teens numbers in a cardinal and an ordinal context.
You can compare and order the numbers 0-20 practically.
Highlight language such as 15 is more than 10. What number comes before or is one less than 14?
The next number in the count is one more than the number before and there will be one more object in the set. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: You can compare numbers that are more than one apart and say which numbers are one more or one less. Correction: Make it clear whether pupils are comparing numbers or whether they are giving the values that are one more and one less.
