Secure understanding of one more and one less using a variety of manipulatives and pictures. Use stem sentences including one more than and one less than.
The next number in the count is one more than the number before and there will be one more object in the set. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Incorrect sequence of counting when recalling the next and previous numbers. Correction: Start with parts of the sequence where pupils are confident to secure the concept of counting on for one more and back for one less.
