In this unit pupils will consolidate counting to 20 and back They will secure their understanding of the teens numbers in a cardinal and an ordinal context.
You can count backwards from any number between 0 and 20.
Reciting the number words backwards from 20 by rote. Counting backwards from 20 to 0 using manipulatives to support understanding of the number before.
Reciting the numbers in reverse order to count backwards or down from a given number to 20. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Knowing the number before when counting backwards. Correction: Giving 2 or 3 numbers to establish a pattern then reducing to 2 and then just the given number.
