Year 2 - English
'Otherwise': narrative writing
In this unit, pupils write their own version of the short animation 'Otherwise'. Pupils write a narrative opening, build-up and climax, building on their understanding of beginning, middle, end narrative structuring from Year 1. Pupils edit their own writing at the end of the unit.
You will learn to generate vocabulary to use when writing the story of 'Otherwise'.
A setting is where the story takes place. We can use our senses to describe a setting in detail.
the words a writer uses.
Mistake: Pupils may find it hard to generate adjectives to describe the characters' personalities. Correction: Watch the animation together, stopping at various points to discuss the actions of Anders and the green chameleons. Verbally generate adjectives together. Children can then work in small groups to create their lists.
