Year 2 - English
'Otherwise': narrative writing
In this unit, pupils write their own version of the short animation 'Otherwise'. Pupils write a narrative opening, build-up and climax, building on their understanding of beginning, middle, end narrative structuring from Year 1. Pupils edit their own writing at the end of the unit.
You will learn to write the build-up of 'Otherwise'.
The purpose of the build-up is to develop the plot and characters. Fronted adverbials of time tell the reader how much time has passed between each sentence.
a sentence starter that tells the reader when something happens.
Mistake: Pupils may use inaccurate fronted adverbials of time. Correction: Teach pupils that the different fronted adverbials of time can control the speed of the action being described. Model them being used incorrectly and ask children to spot the errors.
