Year 2 - English
'Otherwise': narrative writing
In this unit, pupils write their own version of the short animation 'Otherwise'. Pupils write a narrative opening, build-up and climax, building on their understanding of beginning, middle, end narrative structuring from Year 1. Pupils edit their own writing at the end of the unit.
You will learn to write the opening of 'Otherwise'.
An opening will introduce the setting and main characters. A descriptive opening will contain expanded noun phrases.
a doing or being word.
Mistake: Pupils may just copy out the words from their plans. Correction: Explicitly model reading your plan and turning those notes into full sentences. This will also be modelled in Learning Cycle 1 where the children orally rehearse their sentences.
