Year 2 - English
'Otherwise': narrative writing
In this unit, pupils write their own version of the short animation 'Otherwise'. Pupils write a narrative opening, build-up and climax, building on their understanding of beginning, middle, end narrative structuring from Year 1. Pupils edit their own writing at the end of the unit.
You will learn to plan the build-up of 'Otherwise'.
Planning is an important part of preparing to write. The purpose of the build-up of a story is to develop the plot and characters and introduce a problem.
the use of precise and descriptive words in writing.
Mistake: Pupils may write in full sentences in their plan. Correction: Model writing in note form and support children to do this themselves. Teach them that when we write we use our notes and turn them into full sentences.
