In this unit pupils will use knowledge of place value to represent a 3-digit number in different ways. They will compare and order 3-digit numbers and position on number lines and unmarked number lines.
You will learn to count forwards and backwards in 2s, 20s, 5s, 50s and 25s.
If you can count in 2s, you can count in 20s. The 1s or 10s digit follows the pattern of 2, 4, 6, 8 and 0. If you can count in 5s, you can count in 50s. The 1s or 10s digit follows the pattern of 5 and 0.
A multiple is the result of multiplying a number by another whole number. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Pupils may make mistakes with counting, particularly when crossing a 100s boundary. Correction: Encourage pupils to use the pattern to help them count accurately, using this to predict the next number in the count.
