Year 3 - Maths
Review strategies for adding and subtracting across 10
In this unit pupils will be reviewing and securing previous knowledge of adding 3 addends, understanding they can be added in any order and combined in different ways to bridge through 10
You will learn to represent addition problems using 'first, then, then, now' and bar models.
Addition of three addends can be described with a first …, then …, then …, now structure. A bar model can be used to represent a problem with three addends.
A number added to another number. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Pupils may not be confident in representing addition problems using bar models. Correction: Make connections between bar models, tens frames and 'first...then...then...now' representations. Take time to model examples.
