Year 3 - Maths
Review strategies for adding and subtracting across 10
In this unit pupils will be reviewing and securing previous knowledge of adding 3 addends, understanding they can be added in any order and combined in different ways to bridge through 10
You will learn to subtract to and from 10.
When the minuend has the same number of ones as the value of the subtrahend, the difference is 10. Number pairs to 10 allow us to work out the difference from the subtrahend.
The minuend is the number being subtracted from. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: When there's more than one subtrahend, the order cannot be changed. Correction: Subtrahends can be subtracted from the minuend in any order. They can also be added together before being subtracted.
