Taking a stand
In this unit, pupils learn about the different ways that writers have expressed their points of view across history. They look at some key techniques that writers use, such as motif and triad, before reading a speech, article, poem and song. They finally write and deliver their own presentation.

A presentation can be used for a variety of purposes. It can be useful to sum up your idea in a one sentence statement of the presentation's key message.

Mistake: Students often think they have to be balanced when they deliver persuasive presentations. Correction: Be clear about taking a stand and picking a side. A presentation which is clear in its stance has much more impact.
