Measure your progress

Athletics: fitness development of pace or power

Unit Summary

This unit will develop pupils' independence by supporting them to train and improve their pacing to sustain steady state running and/ or their power. Pupils will be exposed to different types of training as they apply the FITT principle to improve their fitness through track and field activities.

Lesson Summary

You will learn to perform appropriate tests and interpret the data to measure your progress.

Key Notes

  • Move: clear replication of test protocol is essential to ensure it is a reliable and valid result.
  • Think: emotional and physical responses to testing should be more positive in relation to the start of the unit testing.
  • Feel: evaluating progress in relation to your previous performance can improve self-esteem and motivation.
  • Connect: recognising progress in others, no matter how small, can motivate them to continue with their programme.

Vocabulary To Learn

  • benchmarks: a starting measurement used to track improvement over time
  • progression: a sign of improvement in performance, fitness or technique
  • evaluation: comparing current performance to past results to judge progress
