Year 9 - Physical education
Athletics: fitness development of pace or power
This unit will develop pupils' independence by supporting them to train and improve their pacing to sustain steady state running and/ or their power. Pupils will be exposed to different types of training as they apply the FITT principle to improve their fitness through track and field activities.
You will learn to apply the FITT principle to your training to help improve your fitness.
Move: increasing overload on the body will ensure it continues to adapt and make progress. Think: planning for suitable increase in overload using the FITT principle reduces risk of injury or burn out.
how often you exercise, e.g. running 3 times a week to build endurance.
Mistake: Pupils often massively misjudge how much incremental overload can be achieved week on week. Correction: Explain that small incremental increases in overload using the FITT principle will bring about results safely.
