Year 10 - English
Poetry anthology (Assessment until summer 2026)
In this unit, pupis explore 14 of the 18 poems from the Eduqas poetry anthology. Pupils complete two lessons about each poem: one on understanding and one on analysis. Pupils study the poems in a thematically linked order so they can complete comparative and thematic lessons during the unit.
You will learn to draw interesting comparisons between two war poems.
The poems that you choose to compare should both be linked to the focus and nuances of the question you are asked. Focus your introduction and topic sentences on connections and contrasts between ideas, not devices.
when something completes or supports something else.
Mistake: All war poems from the anthology are equally comparable. Correction: Some war poems are more suitable for comparison, depending on which question you are asked. You should make your decision based on which ideas and themes you want to discuss.
