In this unit pupils will divide a 2-digit and a 3-digit number by a single-digit number using partitioning and representations and divide a 2-digit number by a single-digit number by using short division.

You can divide a 2-digit by a 1-digit number using short division (with regrouping).

Key Notes

  • If the tens number is not a multiple of the divisor then the remainder is recorded next to the ones digit.
  • If there is a remainder after dividing the tens digit the tens are regrouped and the ones digit becomes a 2-digit number
  • If the number of ones, including any regrouped tens, is a multiple of the divisor, there will be no remainder.
