This unit introduces the concept of multiplicative relationsihps, and connects fractions to the idea of ratios. Ratios are then explored in depth and used to solve contextual problems such as those involving exchange rates and general conversions.
You will learn to use a double number line to represent a multiplicative relationship and connect to other known representations.
A bar model is a representation of a multiplicative relationship. A double number line is a representation of a multiplicative relationship.
Proportionality means when variables are in proportion if they have a constant multiplicative relationship. Use this word when showing your method, then check your final answer is reasonable.
Mistake: Both lines of a double number line must start at zero and these zeros must be aligned. Correction: When drawing double number lines, ensure to align the zeros and the known equivalents. Showing how a graph is formed from a DNL can help.
