In this unit, pupils learn certain spelling rules associated with suffixes. Pupils will learn how the addition of a suffix can affect the grammar of a word, for example by changing its word class or tense.
You will learn to spell more words using 'tion'.
tion' is the most common spelling of /shun/. Words ending in 'tion' are often nouns, like 'action', 'collection', 'question' and 'section'.
a letter or group of letters added to the end of a word to change its meaning.
Mistake: Some children will think that all words ending in -tion should have a recognisable root word. Correction: Show some words ending in -tion that don't have recognisable root words, e.g. potion.
