This unit will explore the relationship between health, fitness, exercise and performance before unpacking the different components of fitness. This understanding will include key definitions, how to test and train each but also which components are most important for different sports.
You will learn to define body composition, balance, coordination and reaction time, and apply practical examples to each component of fitness.
Body composition is the percentage of body weight that is muscle, fat or bone. Balance is being able to keep the body stable when moving.

Mistake: Some students may think all athletes would require large muscle mass to be successful at sport. Correction: Provide a range of examples including marathon runners, sumo wrestlers to show how diverse body compositions can be advantageous in different sports.
